MassEcon Economic Impact Awards 

 
MEDC was honored to attend MassEcon's Annual Economic Impact Awards ceremony. It was truly inspiring to celebrate all the companies who have worked so hard to make a difference in their communities throughout the Commonwealth. 
 
Congratulations again to all winners who received awards for their exceptional work. We look forward to continuing our work in supporting the Massachusetts business community. 
M&T Bank Ribbon Cutting 
 

We were delighted to attend the ribbon cutting for our friends at M&T Bank as they opened a new branch in Marlborough!

 

It was great to see all the hard work that went into this project pay off, and the impact they have made on our community.

MassMEDIC Symposium and Gala
 

MEDC was honored to be a supporting track sponsor for MassMEDIC's MedTech Impact Symposium and Gala where 600+ leaders, innovators, and decision makers in the industry came together to learn, share insights, and collaborate on ways to continue moving MedTech into the future. 
 
We were excited to learn about how our partners are making real impacts on patient's lives and thank our friends at MassMEDIC for the opportunity to participate!   

Statehouse Day
 

We were excited to join regional leaders in business, municipal government, and the nonprofit sector for the 495 MetroWest Partnership Annual State House Day. Each year we gather as a group to advocate for our region's core economic interests: transportation, housing, and water resources.


It was great to hear from Senate President Karen Spilka, Speaker Pro Tempore Kate Hogan, Executive Office of Economic Development Assistant Secretary Juan R. Vega and Senator Jamie Eldridge about issues facing our region and the Commonwealth as a whole.

MMA Panel
 

On April 10th MEDC Executive Director Meredith Harris joined Watertown Auditor Megan Langan and MMA Legislative Director Dave Koffman to speak on a panel at the Massachusetts Municipal Councilors' Assosiation's Regional Meeting about what MEDC does and different ways to look at bringing in revenue and economic development to the city.

We had a wonderful time at Lost Shoe for our Board of Directors spring check-in. It was great to network, catch up with the business leaders that guide us, hear about challenges and opportunities in the city, all while enjoying some delicious coffee and pastries!

Government Affairs Forum
 

MEDC attended the Boston Chamber's Government Affairs Forum where we had the pleasure of hearing Massachusetts Speaker of the House Representative Ronald J. Mariano discuss legislative priorities, economic policy, and regional development.

US-Spain Business Summit
 

MEDC attended the Richi Foundation's US-Spain Business Summit where they discussed not only the future of life sciences, but how they are funding and building it. This was a great event that celebrated the deep cultural and professional ties between our regions.

Hologic CEO Retiring After Acquisition 

 

Hologic announced that CEO Steve MacMillan will retire following the completion of the company’s go-private transaction with Blackstone and TPG, concluding more than 12 years of leadership at the Marlborough-based women’s health company.

 

As the company enters private ownership, veteran healthcare executive José Almeida will take over as CEO, ushering in a new chapter for one of Marlborough’s leading life sciences employers.

Boston Scientific Reveals New Data at Heart Rhythm 2026 

 

Boston Scientific recently unveiled promising new clinical data at Heart Rhythm 2026 highlighting the continued strength of its cardiovascular portfolio. The company reported positive results for its FARAPULSE pulsed field ablation platform and WATCHMAN left atrial appendage closure technologies, including studies showing improved outcomes for patients with atrial fibrillation and strong procedural success rates across multiple trials. The findings reinforce Boston Scientific’s momentum in advancing innovative heart rhythm and stroke prevention therapies.

Quantiphi Wins 2026 Google Cloud Partner of the Year Award in Four Categories

 

Quantiphi has earned significant recognition from Google Cloud, being named a 2026 Google Cloud Partner of the Year in four categories. This achievement acknowledges the company’s leadership in AI, cloud, and digital transformation services.

 

The award recognizes Quantiphi’s continued success in delivering innovative, AI-driven solutions for enterprise customers through its strategic partnership with Google Cloud. This latest honor further reinforces Quantiphi’s position as a global leader in AI-first digital engineering and enterprise technology innovation.

Repligen Opens European Training & Innovation Center
 
Repligen has opened a new European Training & Innovation Center in Breda, Netherlands, to expand support for its global biopharma customers. The new facility will provide hands-on training, product demonstrations, and technical support, further strengthening Repligen’s international customer service network.

Sartorius Marks Positive Start to 2026

 
Sartorius reported a strong start to 2026, with first-quarter sales rising 7.5% year-over-year to €899 million, driven by continued demand across its bioprocess and laboratory businesses. The company said recurring revenue from consumables and services remained a key growth driver, while equipment sales showed expected volatility. Sartorius maintained its full-year outlook, signaling confidence in continued momentum throughout 2026.
The TJX Companies, Inc. Announces 13% Increase in Common Stock Dividend
 
TJX Companies raised its quarterly dividend by 13%, increasing the payout to $0.48 per share, reflecting continued strong financial performance and investor confidence. The company said the move reflects strong financial performance and continued confidence in its business. The higher dividend will be paid to shareholders in early June.
St. Mary’s Credit Union (SMCU) Offers Assistance to Homebuyers Through FHLBank Boston Programs
 
St. Mary’s Credit Union has been approved to participate in three Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston homeownership assistance programs designed to help income-eligible buyers with down payments and closing costs. Through these programs, qualified homebuyers may receive up to $40,000 in assistance depending on eligibility, with funding available on a first-come, first-served basis. The initiative aims to make homeownership more accessible for local families amid rising housing costs.
Avidia Bank Charitable Foundation Makes Generous Donation to UMass Memorial Medical Center

 

Robert Cozzone, Avidia Bank President & CEO, presented Justin Precourt, President of UMass Memorial Medical Center, with a $50,000 check as an investment for the expansion and renovation of their Marlborough facility.

Governor Healey Files New Mass Wins Act

 

Governor Healey has filed the new “Mass Wins Act,” a $305 million economic development proposal aimed at strengthening Massachusetts’ competitiveness, creating jobs, and attracting global investment. The legislation includes funding for emerging industries such as artificial intelligence, robotics, defense, and climate technology, while also lowering the cost of doing business by reducing startup fees and expanding energy tax exemptions for small businesses. Additional provisions focus on supporting economic growth across the Commonwealth.

Eric Paley Named to Boston Magazine's 150 Most Influential Bostonians
 
Eric Paley was recognized in Boston Magazine’s 2026 Boston Power List as one of the region’s most influential leaders, reflecting his growing impact on Massachusetts’ economic and innovation landscape. His inclusion highlights his leadership as the Commonwealth’s Secretary of Economic Development and his longstanding role in shaping the state’s startup and venture capital ecosystem.

Governor Healey Hosts Spanish Deputy Prime Minister at State House

 

Governor Maura Healey welcomed Spain’s Deputy Prime Minister, Carlos Cuerpo, to the Massachusetts State House as part of efforts to strengthen economic ties between Massachusetts and Spain. The visit highlighted expanded trade and investment opportunities, including new Spanish investment initiatives supporting biotech and innovation partnerships in the Commonwealth.

495/MetroWest Partnership Survey

 

The 495/MetroWest Partnership has teamed up with the MetroWest Economic Research Center (MERC) at Framingham State University to conduct their Employer Survey.  The survey is a valuable resource for measuring business confidence across the 495/MetroWest region and helping to anticipate future growth among regional employers.

 

Owners, leaders, or individuals with regional hiring authority for private/ nongovernmental organizations that have a presence in the 495/MetroWest region are encouraged to participate. The survey should take less than 10 minutes to complete.

Results Way Mixed-Use Overlay District Public Hearing
 
At the April 6th Council Meeting, a public hearing was held for an application submitted by affiliates of Greatland Realty Partners to consider an amendment to the existing Results Way Mixed-Use Overlay District. The proposed amendment would allow for additional housing to be built on the Campus Street site.

Forest Street Residential Overlay District Public Hearing 

 

At the April 27th Council Meeting, a public hearing was held for an application submitted by Redgate Real Estate Advisors, LLC, to consider a new overlay zoning request. The Forest Street Residential Overlay District would allow for additional housing and mixed-use development on roughly 31 acres along Forest Street. 

2026 Marlborough Forward Plan Reviewed by Urban Affairs
 
On Wednesday April 29th, the City Council Urban Affairs Committee held a meeting to discuss the 2026 Marlborough Forward Plan. The meeting allowed for public comment and included a presentation from RKG Associates. To read the draft Forward Plan please click below.

We are exploring the formation of a Marlborough Revolutionary War Militia reenactment group, with the goal of participating in the June 27th 250th Celebration parade and Muster. We’re inviting anyone interested to join us for an initial gathering on May 2nd.

Marlborough will be hosting a regional Fan Zone during the month of June at Kelleher Field! Games will be shown Thursday June 11th, Friday June 12th, and Saturday June 13th.
