Exploring Economic Development with MEDC: Katie Perry
 
For Episode 47 of Exploring Economic Development with MEDC, we welcomed Katie Perry, Vice President of Business Administration for Technium, a Marlborough-based IT company on Donald Lynch Boulevard. Katie discussed how Technium is a network expert in cybersecurity and discussed the unique partnership they have with Marlborough Public Schools offering students work-based learning opportunities.

Toolbox Grant Award: Ember & Alma Cocktail Bar
 

Ember and Alma Cocktail Bar was recently awarded a MEDC Toolbox Grant from the Storefront Beautification Program. After undergoing a complete rebranding of the restaurant, originally known as Labaredas Brazilian BBQ & Bar, Ember and Alma connected with MEDC to upgrade their signage.

MEDC Attends MassEcon's Annual Meeting & Holiday Reception
 
MEDC headed to the Seaport in Boston for MassEcon's Annual Meeting and Holiday Reception, which celebrated several milestones achieved by the organization this year including assisting in creating an estimated 2,240 new jobs in Massachusetts. This year’s featured speaker was Richard Davey, CEO of the Massachusetts Port Authority.
MEDC Visits Kennedy's Winter Wonderland for Holiday Fun
 

We were grateful to spend time together for a holiday lunch in the "Tavern on the Green" Greenhouse at Kennedy's Restaurant & Market's newly constructed outdoor Winter Wonderland. Thank you Julie, Michael, David and Tiago along with everyone at Kennedy’s for not only making our lunch so special, but for continuing to be creative and bring fun and exciting new experiences to Marlborough! 

Downtown Pop-Up Shops Wrap Up 2024 Season
 

The 2024 season for the Marlborough Downtown Pop-Up Shops has come to a close and we would like to thank all the vendors, shoppers and the DPW for another fantastic year. The shops were open for 32 weeks straight this season and we welcomed 19 unique users.

 

We'll see you in May 2025!

Boston Scientific Named to Two Forbes' Employer Excellence Lists

 

Boston Scientific was recently recognized by Forbes Magazine, ranking #18 on the publication's "2025 America's Best Companies List". The Marlborough-based medical device company also appeared on Forbes' "America's Best Employers for Engineers" list.

Hologic Receives Honors from Boston Globe, Fortune Magazine
 
Hologic was recently recognized by The Boston Globe, naming the Marlborough-based medical technology company to its "Top Places to Work 2024" list for the third consecutive year.
 
Hologic was also ranked on the "Best Workplaces for Parents" list by Fortune Magazine. The list is based on employee feedback including support for both full and part-time colleagues with children as well as equality throughout various demographics including race, ethnicity and gender.

Hologic Receives Three IMV ServiceTrak Imaging Awards

 

Hologic earned three IMV ServiceTrak Imaging Awards at the Radiological Society of North America 2024 Annual Meeting. Specializes in women's health diagnostics, Hologic was recognized for Best Service, Best Customer Satisfaction and Best System Performance.

Hologic Enters Agreement with CDC on Bird Flu Test Development
 
Hologic has signed an agreement with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention to contribute to laboratory-developed tests for idenitifying various diseases and conditions, including the H5N1 bird flu.
IPG Photonics Acquires German-Based cleanLASER
 
Marlborough-based IPG Photonics, an international laser manufacturing company, has announced its acquisition of the German firm, cleanLASER, which specializes in high-precision laser systems for cleaning applications.
Quest Diagnostics Launches New Health Coaching Program
 
Quest Diagnostics is taking a virtual approach to health coaching, announcing it will now offer these services through the company's website, questhealth.com. Patients who sign up for the holistic programs are matched with board-certified health professionals and engage in one-on-one virtual coaching sessions. Patients will also receive digital content including articles and videos geared towards their health goals.
Wyebot Announces Partnership with Zebra PartnerConnect
 
Wyebot, a Marlborough-based WiFi automation corporation, has joined the Zebra PartnerConnect program. As a result of the collaboration, Wyebot will now have access to the channel partner program's portfolio, training, marketing and sales services.
DCU Joins Greenlight's Kid-Focused Financing Program
 
Digital Federal Credit Union has partnered with Greenlight Financial Technology to educate kids and teens about building healthy financial futures.
 
DCU members now have access to Greenlight's financing app, which is geared towards giving hands-on money management experience to kids. Through the app and under adult supervision, users receive debit cards and parents can create chore lists, set up allowances and send money to the accounts.
Former Team USA Badmitton Player Purchases Wayside Athletic Club
 
Former U.S. Badminton Olympian Eva Waller and her husband, Nick Waller, recently purchased Marlborough's Wayside Athletic Club.
 
The Wallers currently own and operate HelloBirdie Badminton Academy in Westborough and purchased the club as a means to expand their programs into Marlborough and attract more elite athletes to the area.
Worcester Railers HC to Host Marlborough Night at DCU Center
 
The City of Marlborough is teaming up with the Marlborough Chamber of Commerce, the MEDC and the Worcester Railers for "Marlborough Night" on Saturday, January 18th.
 
The puck drops at 6:05pm at the DCU Center in Worcester and interested attendees can click here for details on how to purchase Marlborough-specific tickets for a power play packed night.

STATE AND REGIONAL UPDATES
Healey, Driscoll Award $3.2 Million in Apprenticeship Grants
 
The Healey-Driscoll Administration has announced $3.2 million in grants will be used for Registered Apprenticeship Opportunities in Workforce (GROW). A total of 29 training organizations and over 500 apprentices across the commonwealth will benefit from this funding.
Navjeet Bal Named MassDevelopment CEO
 
MassDevelopment has selected Navjeet Bal as the organization's new Cheif Executive Officer. Bal moves into the new role after serving as general counsel at Social Finance, a Boston-based non-profit organization, for more than nine years. Bal also led the Massachusetts Department of Revenue under former Governor Deval Patrick from 2008-2011.

City Sets Tax Rate for Fiscal Year 2025
 

The average single-family tax bill in Marlborough is expected to increase by less than $200 for Fiscal 2025.

 

The MEDC is proud that Marlborough's residental tax rate increase is one of the lowest in the region, maintaining a stable and predictable tax rate.
